Valentine's Day 2013

Not one to usually celebrate Valentine's Day (it is Arizona's birthday!), I gave in and went out searching this year for a "husband" Valentine card because I could! But, alas, any card that says "To My Husband" is either ridiculously cliche (AKA, not funny) or disgustingly sentimental. So I stuck with a fun one that said "I heart you more" and then inside "And yes, it is a competition." This suits us much more!

However, you know that the wedding is over and that we've let ourselves off the hook for being quite so healthy, since we BOTH bought sugary sweets for the other.

It was a quick night for us, as Kyle had ultimate Frisbee league, and I had grading and am still getting over the flu, but we still made time for each other and had a nice dinner at Arriba.

Wednesday Wish: Let Them Eat Cake!

As I begin my quest for health and wellness (like I haven't been working my butt off the last 8 months already...), I cannot think of anything in this world except wedding cake! I like cake so much that I usually sneak bites off the neglected plates at others' seats during weddings. (I guess you better watch out next time you're at a wedding with me). Kyle, not liking cake himself, donates his pieces to me graciously. In the age of alternative wedding desserts, I cannot imagine anything in the world besides the good old-fashioned cake! I will dream about thee, cake, as I eat this scrumptious, low-fat granola and Greek yogurt dessert. I will refrain from saying how I really feel about this, though, too many choice words involved!

Confession: All I Want for Christmas

I must confess, I am having a hard time enjoying Christmas when the much more-anticipated wedding is getting nearer and nearer each day. Every year, people look forward to the spirit of the holidays and the time with family, gift giving, and of course food. Well, I'll see you one Christmas and raise you one Wedding!!

Why weddings are more fun than Christmas (not that anyone out there will argue):
1. The cake. I love Christmas cookies as much as the next person, but cake wins, hands down.
2. DANCING. Christmas dancing is really reserved for New Year's Eve, not Christmas.
3. Dresses. It is much too cold in Minnesota to dress up on Christmas and be comfortable, so until I spend Christmas in Phoenix (which can also be freezing in December,) I give one more point to Weddings.
4. More friends and family. I don't know about you, but we are lucky that my immediate family can be together for Christmas. Weddings are filled with all the people you love, not just a select few.
5. Christmas may mean happiness and joy for a month or two, but my wedding will mean a lifetime of happiness and joy. (I know, I am so cheesy now that I'm a bride to be).

On that note, all I really wanted for Christmas this year was a wedding, and I am getting exactly what I want.

This Wednesday's Wish

I recently scheduled a tasting with our caterer, and I sure do hope he brings the cake, in ALL requested flavors. :) Maybe it is just the holidays, but man would I die for a big, succulent slice of spice cake! And wouldn't this be the PERFECT cake cutter for our woodsy wedding?
